HAWKS!  Thank you for coming even though you pretty much ‘had to’! I hope it was new ground in the world of delivering a dreaded message, but hopefully also one that will inspire you to make something of yourselves!  I have a great life today on the ‘other side’ of the party.  I hope yours stays responsible if you indulge and that you will e-mail me if you ever want to talk!  I have an amazing life, please never feel sorry for me, I am not a victim.  I am a survivor, and each of you have survived challenges also!  We all have a story!  Thank you Donna, Dean McMahon, Clayton, Mike, Lauren, Rene, Justin, Jackie, Hadley and all the students, for packing the place and taking such good care of me!
I am posting pics as I type.  Come back at 12:15am to see some of the show!

great show, thank you for coming to our school, i think you really opened the eyes of many students who binge drink, and hopefully inspired them to take control and make a change for the better… thanks again

That was definitely the best alcohol awareness event I have ever been to. Bernie got his message across without speaking at us students. It was more personable and of course the jokes help to keep the students concentrated on the central issue. THANKS SO MUCH!

Heyy Bernie. I LOVED the shooww.. it was reallyyy funny but when you got serious you really got your point across. =)

hey! the show was great! sorry about your brother…

  5. 5 Brian Nelson

Hey I honestly thought you were gonna suck, but I am glad I stayed. You were great I watch comedy central and the majority of comedians just arent funny. You were rude crude and to the the point Thats why it was great thanks for coming I would love to see your stand up in the area.

Excellent show. Personally, I’d bring soap on a rope.

Hey Bernie! I thought the show was great!! It had a great message but at the same time I just couldn’t stop laughing! What a great way to get through to people!

It also reached me on a personal level. I have a brother who is 2 years old who has Down’s Syndrome, so I know exactly what you mean when you talk about your younger brother. :) I absolutely love him (and my other two siblings) and I care for him the way you care for your brother. Thanks again for coming!!

    Hey Bernie,

I just wanted to say thank you. Not only were you hilarious, but you were really open with us, and I really appreciated you sharing your strory. I have a lot of friends who party way too hard, and it is hard for me to keep respect for them when they are constantly disrespecting themselves and others. I was shocked to hear of your brother’s death, but very touched by your story. Many people were in my dorm getting drunk and high before your performance, and I hope the message got through to them, too.

    Hey Bernie

That was an awesome show tonight. I really enjoyed it. You had me laughing the entire time. The stories that you talked about really hit home for me especially the ones about your brothers. I think you definately opened a lot of peoples eyes today to issues that are normally pushed aside and ignored. I know a lot of people who drink and do drugs and I hope that they got the message. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for coming to perform for us today, I really appreciate the fact that you took the time to come talk to us and share many of your personal experiences as I know that is not a very easy thing to do. Hopefully you can come back and do it again sometime.

You did an amazing job! The show was hilarious! Thanks for coming!!

    Hey Bernie,

I came to see you tonight because firstly, I do not drink and second, because it’s been a long week and I definitely needed a good laugh so I was counting on you. I literally could not breathe and I had tears in my eyes with the toilet tissue puzzle comments (Definitely a keeper!) Also, I am a sophomore and came straight from organic chemistry lab to take a break from the hectic life most of us lead. I am glad the university was able to get you to come to our school and hopefully you will return next year for the new freshman. Your story was inspiring and I think that the new ways the university is trying to get freshman to avoid the drinking/drug scene early will actually do good for some. Thank you for sharing your story with us here at RWU. You are welcomed back anytime. I hope you will get more “wall posts” as well.

The show tonight was awesome! Thanks for coming and speaking to us, it hilarious and moving at the same time. =]

  20. 20 Jeremy King

Wonderful act. Perfect presentation. Loved it. P.S. I too have a Fiat Spider convertible! 1982 baby, and you’ve got to have a sense of humor to own a car like that…otherwise you’ll “drive” yourself mad!

  21. 21 Jill Newman

Thanks so much for coming to our school, it was an outstanding performance.

  22. 22 Jacqueline Popoloski

Loved the show! Thanks so much for coming to RWU. Very funny, and great way to get the message to students!! P.S. I just want to give your brother a hug while riding in a convertible going 70mph. haha. Thanks again!

  23. 23 Amber Liljeholm

Bernie, Great Show! Your story is inspriring.

  24. 24 Diana Denio

Great show tonight, really enjoyed it. Great way to talk to teens about the drinking issue.

    Thanks

  25. 25 Nicole

Thank you so much. i was so touched by the show tonight. you were hilarious and definitely got the message across to me. as soon as i got back to the dorm i called someone and told them the story. i am so happy we were forced to go, because it really sent a great message across.
and i just talked to my best friend from another school, who said that they had seen you too, and i loved it.

    =] thanks so much.

  26. 26 Brisa

your show was wicked funny. It is definitly better than listening to someone telling you not to drink. It’s a very unique way to open kids eyes about drinking. Thanks for coming : )

  27. 27 Max Blackledge

Thankyou for coming. you kept me laughing the whole time. you mixed the important, meaningful things very well with the show. i will always remember it. thanks for coming!

  28. 28 Ziad Achkar

I wanted to say that your show was amazing and made me think about a lot of stuff going on in my life, made me rethink some part of my life too..its one of the best comedy show i have seen.. and it was nice meeting you in person before the show..

    All The Best

Thank You for coming to RWU

  29. 29 Nate

This is not a shot at your comedic skills but I didn’t care to be there. I think most of us weren’t really in the mood for a mandatory comedy show(and that’s gotta be tough on a comedian!). You did present a saddening story about your brother which, in my opinion, gives a much greater representation about the dangers of partying than your personal case. In fact your case quite bothered me. Here you are; a college drop out with 3 DUI charges and 6 months jail time, telling us that dangerous partying screws up your life. All the while here you are; a man who’s toured with the greats, gotten your work published in a book, and appeared on a late night talk show. Talk about being successful. What I’m saying is the majority of your message, for me, was contradictory to your success and therefore harder to swallow. You never stated how you turned your life around besides: “I looked at myself in the mirror”. Anyway, congrats on being sober and successful. Looks like you’re inspiring some and that’s what counts!

  30. 30 Lauren Bartolotti

    Bernie–

You ‘killed’ it last night! Awesome job! And even though you just loooved to pick on me (hmmm the bronx..thats…nice…) , I really felt your message last night and I’m glad to have been a part of it. Thanks!

    Lauren

  31. 31 Kirstie Goodwin

Thank you so much for coming! While I don’t drink myself, I thought you had an important message for everyone, whether they drink or not! You were absolutely hilarious and I know that all my friends and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!

    Congrats on 20 years sober!

    -Kirstie

  32. 32 Ashley Aliengena

    Hey, Bernie!

The show was great. To be honest, I had been dreading it. (There were piles of homework to be done, haha.) But I’m so glad that I went. I had an awesome time and I really enjoyed the message. I myself don’t drink, and it really made an impact on me when you addressed people like me and said, “There is nothing wrong with you. Stay on the path you’re on.” Sometimes I feel like I’m “failing” at college social life when I don’t join in the wild party trend. But you reinforced my goals. Thanks!

    –Ashley

  33. 33 Stephanie Manning

great show! thank you so much for sharing your story with us!

  34. 34 Jeremy Siegel

amazing show last night, you had a lot of funny comments and jokes, and above all, a message that is going to make kids think next time they are drinking too much.

  35. 35 Elaina Strampach

I just wanted to say that you were really amazing, really funny, and very heart-touching.You are really strong to be able to have humor about everything that you went through in your life. I wish the best to you and your family.

  36. 36 Ryan

    Hey Bernie.

Again, awesome show. Thanks for the picture. Again, throughout most of my life I’ve been associated with my mom and her wellness programs. You were absolutely one of the best show’s RWU has ever had. Keep up the great work!

    Ryan

  37. 37 Chris Jendraszek

Your show was pretty freakin’ sweet! And, as I know you intended, it actually meant something, rather than just being “Don’t drink! Alcohol is the Devil!” Your message actually resonated with me. Also I was in a really bad mood that night, and your act helped me get over it. So thank you for coming to Roger Williams!

  38. 38 Jared Wolf

Great show man, keep it up.

  39. 39 Jake Jackson

Thanks alot.. That was a fun way to express your message. It was a lot better than sitting through an hour session that was just about drinking. You’re a funny guy, Keep it up.

  40. 40 Mike

    Hey Bernie –

Thanks again for coming to Roger Williams University. It was a real pleasure to have you. You left an impactful message on me and your comedic skills are wonderful. Keep up the good work. Your message is an important one all students should hear, regardless of if they drink or not. You are welcome on our campus anytime.

  41. 41 Kolby Martineau

Thanks for coming and putting on a great show, you were so funny! You did a great job speaking to things that we could relate to and you believe it or not actually made me think about my partying habits and what i want to get out of school. Keep up the good work!

  42. 42 Christine

Hi Bernie! Thanks so much for coming to RWU & sharing your stories with us. I loved the comedy & would really like to hear more sometime.

  45. 45 Michael Hadzopulos

Despite being mandatory, your show was amazing and sent a great message. Hope you come up again so we can have another chance to watch you.

  46. 46 Liam

To be honest I’m glad they forced us to come because I had an awesome time and would’ve really regretted not seeing you. I’ve been through countless assemblies and whatnot and yours was by far and large the best and most memorable. Your comedy and personal stories are an excellent way to deliver the message. Keep it up and thanks for coming.

  47. 47 Jackie Spencer

    Hey Bernie,
The show was amazing and even though all of the freshmen had to be there, they have all been saying how happy they are that they went. You were really an inspiration to everyone and got the seriousness of the issue out there while still allowing everyone to have fun. Hopefully we can get you to come back next year! The pictures are great!
    Jackie

  48. 48 Jess Karalis

I just wanted to say thank you so much for your performance. Its was amazing and incredibly moving, not to mention funny. I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time. I really think you did a great job at getting the message across in a more effective way. I’m very sorry to hear about your brother and I know it must have been rough. But thanks again, you were AMAZING! come back next year please! :)
