The Airmen today at Randolph were AMAZING!! Wow! I am taken aback by the incredible response and respect I felt from all the brave Airmen during the ‘Be a Good Wingmen Week’! Bernie,
Loved the show at Randolph. Great message!! Someone will make a change that wouldn’t otherwise. Thanks for using your talents to benefit others.
Best wishes for you and your family during the holidays.
David
I wanted to take the time to thank you for your performance. It was by far the best safety briefing I have ever been given.
Dear Mr. Bernie,
My name is Carlos Barter. I’m currently assigned here at Randolph AFB beautiful San Antonio. I would just like to say I truly enjoyed your show and it was an honor and privilege. I truly appreciate you taking the time out of your busy schedule to come out and share not only your funny jokes, but your safety message as well. This means a lot as your comedy act and your safety message may help save the lives and careers of not only our military brothers and sisters, but our civilians’ counterparts as well. It’s very refreshing and uplifting to see individuals like you coming out and supporting our military as we continue to fight the war on terrorism and help protect the freedom our founding fathers envisioned for our great country. May the Lord bless you and your family with health, joy and happiness. May he also grant you the strength so you can continue touching and changing peoples lives one at a time. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Sincerely,
Carlos Barter
Your safety briefing was funny, inspiring, poignant, and wonderful. Through your comedy, you clearly show an individual can overcome adversity, tragedy, and any obstacles with strength, courage, and love. Your stories were heartwarming and sad–yet still sent a strong message of hope. You show great courage in not only overcoming what you did, but sharing that pain and suffering with others through a medium that not many would choose–laughter. Laughter is so needed in this world. Through your message, I hope others avoid the challenges you had, and, if they face the same obstacles, I hope they can come through them with the same strength and courage you showed. I also pray others will understand that we are not only responsible for ourselves, but should find ways to help others as well. That you are willing to give of yourself is a blessing for others. I pray God’s blessings on you and your family.
Keep up the good work delivering the message. Thank you for coming.
Thank you for coming to Randolph and enlightening your day. Your comedy was outstanding and your store about your brother was heart-felt. You’re great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello Bernie,
Enjoyed your presentation and approach.
Best of Luck,
Jose
Good Show sir. A lot better than the usual banter we have to listen to during safety days! Good lesson and great jokes. I too had a prior period of severe alcohol abuse that I’m still feeling the effects of to this day (and dealing with the consequences). Although I am not strong enough to stop drinking all together, I’ve stopped abusing alcohol and only drink on occasion. Really enjoyed the show!
Bernie, You were great. Good message. Born in Queens, N.Y.
you hit home on a lot of issues. Sorry about your brother, we lost my little brother when he was 23 years old, flying over England to Germany in 1976 on a C-141. Keep on doin’ what you’re doin’. Take Care adn May God Bles you and your Family, Lee
Bernie! Thanks for the laughs and message from Randolph AFB. You’re on a mission from God! Stay the course.
You were great!!! You not only made me laugh but cry–I will need forget your show. Thanks for caring about us!!!

I thought you put on a great safety briefing. was fun and entertaining.Hope you can make it back for the next one.
Loved the show….very funny. Hope to see it again!
I laughed so hard!
Bernie,
Thank you so much for giving us a very different kind of saftey briefing. I know your message hit with a more lasting impact than the traditional shock and horror photos and briefing.
The way you talk about and treat your family, especially your brother Shawn. Thank you for being there for him and making him so happy. I looked for his photo here on your site but didn’t find it.
Thanks for doing what you do in spreading your story. I know you are making a difference.
David
What a great show! Bernie you are hilarious! I was in tears the whole time! I am really glad they were able to get you to come and speak for us. A truly good experience for us, and thank you for sharing your story. Your message got through to me and I am sure to many others. We all need to be a good Wing Man and do the right thing. For ourselves and for the people around us in our daily lives. No matter how hard that is, not giving in.
Thanks again for coming to Randolph. Have a great holiday! Merry Christmas!
Adam
Bernie,
Great show…enjoyed the stories and the message. Come back and kill us any time.
Thank you so much for coming out to Randolph today. You were very funny but also had a good message as well. I thought it was a very unique and creative approach that was enjoyable as well as informative. After talking with others after the show, they all agreed. Thanks again for brightening our day with your humor and wisdom.
Sincerely,
Craig
Thanks for coming to Randolph…you were really funny, we all enjoyed the show!
Great show, funny and informative. Information was very relatable. Best Safety briefing I have ever been too.
Bernie- It’s not often that someone with incredible talent uses their gift for the good of others… you have an awesome routine and an even better message. I wish you luck and many more years to spread your touching and hysterical stories! Great website too- very professional and inviting!
AWESOME JOB KEEP IT UP!!
Bernie!!! What’s up? I loved the show today; but more importantly I loved the message you sent. It was right on time for me. Sometimes I find myself looking for ways to be motivated or to relieve stress and a glass of wine is usually what becomes the answer. Whoa! Let me tell you how eye opening and realistic your message was to me. Time to wake up, right? Before the problem escalates. I wish my mother (an alcoholic in denial for >25 years) could have heard your message. If she were computer savvy I’d send her your site to check out. In the meantime, I’ll just relay the message when I call her tonight. Good luck and God speed to you. Tell Shawn, the Public Health office at Randolph AFB says “hey good lookin’!”
Much respect, Yolanda Batchelor
Sir, I wanted to thank you for coming to our base today. We all greatly appreciated your message. Thank you for the comedic relief as well. Its always needed. I truly appreciate what you do and thank you from the bottom of my heart. You had a great message. Please come back again.
Great Show! It was definitely the best saftey briefing I have ever seen!
I have been at Randolph AFB for almost 3 years and every year we kind of cringe at the boring, monotoned briefing they have in store for us during WingMan Day. I appreciate the message that is coming across, but I appreciate it more when its interesting, funny and has a personal message.
Thank you for sharing your humor and you personal experiences. And thank you for supporting our troops.
I really enjoyed the show. I had heard about all that you were doing to spread the word about drinking through comedy and spirituality. I think that this is a wonderful way to get the message across to people and make a difference in their lives. After being a part of your show, that’s the way I felt as a part of your show, I truly felt that message and I am going to spread the wealth to those that surround my life and be a true impact in their life. Thank you for all that you do and I would like to see you return to Randolph AFB, TX next year to give the same impact too those that are in need. You are a great motivational speaker and I am glad that I was there to listen to your message. Thank you again and enjoy all your time with your brother because family is everything and you have a stronger bond and a need to be involved in your brother’s life and I think that is EVERYTHING!
SrA Jason Boyd
Enjoy your show today. Thanks for the laugh and the reality check on drug and alcohol. I’m inspire by your story. I been down that same road and still on the road to getting my son’s help on his drug addicition. You hit it right on the money when you said friends or so call friends aren’t there when you need them. I true friend is your family (mother, father, brother, sister) who will always be there to help you get out of trouble and to make sure you succeed in life. Again, thanks for the inspirational words. God Bless.
Bernie,
Great show today on base. Some of your points really hit home. Ive had some pretty horrific events in my life too…it’s nice to know there’s someone else out there who has not only lived through it, but is willing to talk about it.
Sgt J.
You killed! Thanks for taking the time to entertain Randolph’s airmen. Your strong message really hit home. You’ve shown tremendous support for our nation’s military and hope the rest of America will continue to support their troops and not lose faith in the war against terrorism.
Hey Bernie,
I saw your show today at Randolph AFB and saw how alcohol has touched you. I was so shocked to learn how much of an effect it had on your life. I too lost someone to alcoholism, my father. He passed away at 42 with cirosis of the liver. I had heard that drinking was hereditary, so because of this I dont drink. I want to be the one that breaks the chain in my family. I appreciate the message and thank you for a great show. I am from Queens, NY and got all the jokes, even when alot of people were lost. Keep the message alive!
SSgt Grullon
Many people have walked, and are currently walking in your shoes. Thank you for the time and consideration you gave to RAFB. Too many people have lost and will still lose their life to alcoholism, it is an all too common disease that way too many people take lightly. Your story and skit is very inspirational as many of us stuggle day to day to admit and then conquer this illiness.
Thank you Bernie, and God Bless…
Great show. As a group (12 of us) we talked about it for nearly a half/hour durning lunch. Keep up the good work, keep up the message.
Tomm
Bernie – you were awesome today at Randolph!!! I have not laughed that much in such a long time … even my cheeks hurt. That was the best safety briefing I have ever sat through. No gorry pictures, just a down right funny and inspiring message. Even during our afternoon “Wingman” get togethers, your humor and your message was still being talked about. You got the point across. I hope we can get you back again next year!!! Give Shawn a big hug for me.
Bernie
Wow!
I’ve been in the military for over 21 years, and have never had such an enjoyable time learning, and laughing. Your personal story was very inspirational–thank you for sharing it with us. My friends & I are still talking about your stand-up routine, and what a good time it was. I hope to see you again next year.
Stay safe.
Rico
Bernie,
If you’ve never been to a typical Safety Brief you have no idea what a refreshing and pleasant surprise your show was today. I know you said you could never get up early enough in the morning to be in the military(!) but I’ve never known anyone who could make a room full of people laugh that hard before 10 o’clock! You absolutely killed, thanks for visiting us and for your very relevant message.
Trip
Great briefing! You really made us laugh and hear a great message at the same time. Best safety briefing I’ve ever attended. IF you’re not back next year I feel sorry for the next act!!! Thanks again for supporting Randolph!!!
TB
Bernie,
I really enjoyed your show! I know that the base will reap the benefits of your presentation. It was really great meeting you and if you are ever in town, please stop by the safety office and visit.
- Leo
Bernie,
Thanks so much for visiting Randolph, AFB, and for taking the time out to tell your story. I think you gave all of us a good laugh, but most of all a great message. I think wherever you take your story and whoever hears it will leave with a different outlook on life. Godbless.
That is the kind of presentation that will actually help someone make a positive decision. Funny and moving all in one. Its almost like you tricked us into a little introspection…..the segues werent half bad either.
20 yrs in Jan is awesome. Good Luck and keep doin what you are doin.
Bernie,
Thanks for the msg and for supporting the troops. My father was released from prison this past April. He was serving time for a 3rd (Felony DUI) DUI. He was killed in a car accident this past July. Keep spreading the word. Thanks!
Bernie…you were awesome today. You delivered a great message and I know from experience (punk kid growin’ up) that if you had visited my high school that message would’ve kicked me into gear. Again, you’re doing GODs great work and keep pushin’.
Rob
Thanks for making the safety brief not the usual “death by briefing”!
Awesome job, we laughed so hard we were crying! I felt privileged to have you speak to us this morning. You are doing an amazing job at reaching people and sharing your experiences and knowledge. Keep up the great work and thanks again!
LT Jamieson
Mr. Bernie:
First, thanks for sharing your life story with us, it was really helpful. Also, I have to said it was the best Safety briefing I have seen in more than ten years in the Air Force. Keep up the OUTSTANDING work!!!

Bernie, What a great show you put on and and even better message you delivered!!! Thanks for sharing your story and the comedy was fantastic!!!
Bernie,
Thanks for coming out and supporting the troops…Your hilarious brother…Take Care and Happy Holidays
Lt Aton
Wow. What a change of pace from the normal “safety briefings”! Your delivery was great, nice clean humor to get us laughing and then what an outstanding message on alcohol and the dangers of losing control. Thanks for sharing your story with us. I hope my kids get a chance to hear you someday.
Bernie,
Thanks so much for the great show. We appreciate your honesty in dealing with your past problems in life. Keep doing what you are doing because you are helping more people than you realize.
The act was hilarious but the message was even better.
Thank you,
Jason
Bernie,
You hit a home run for Randolph! Your words touched many people and we loved having you here. You are pretty good simuator pilot too! Safe travels.
Best Air Force brief I have ever had to endure. Go Navy!!!
But seriously thanks for taking time to come and share your Act and Life stories with us.
I think your CRAZEEEEEEEE! Thanks Bernie, now I’ll have that damn song in my head all day!
Thank you for visiting Randolph AFB and have a great holiday.
Good job on your 19 years being sober.
I have also given up alcohol. While I never had a problem with it I just felt its not something I need anymore.
Your gig was inspiring and very funny.
Best of luck.
Keep killin!
EW
You da man Bernie; a wonderful message delivered with such warmth and humor.
Come back and see us.
fred
Bernie,
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, strength and hope. Being raised and married to recovering alcoholics, I could only have gratitude that my loved ones got the message of grace before having to endure the pain that you have…but for the grace of God. Many blessings to you and your family!
Bernie,
Your use of humor to present such a critical and sensitive issue–over indulging in alcohol was simply outstanding. I am sure your presentation touched many of us at Randolph. Thank you for taking the time to share your gift with us.
Al Marshall
God Bless You, your safety brief yesterday was the best I’ve ever seen here at Randolph. It made me laugh so hard my sides are still sore today. It also touched me and made me cry several times. Keep fighting the good fight. My prayers are with you.
GREAT SHOW AND COMMENTARY!!! NEEDED A GOOD LAUGH , GOD SPEED.
Bernie,
Thanks so much for sharing your talents, experiences, and message. Great stories…hilarious material! Keep up the great work. Thanks again!
Bernie,
Your show today was incredible! As all of the blogs have said our normal safety briefings are rather on the ‘dry’ side. I wanted to tell you that 95% of my drinking was done before I turned 21 years old. I do not know why I did not become an alcoholic due to the amount of consumption, which was horrendous. But I gave up all alcohol in my early twenties and have never regretted it a day. Life can give us our own natural highs! Thank you for the love and caring that you show your family and the military through your shows. May God Bless You!!!!
Bernie,
Thank you so much for coming out to Randolph and being a true inspiration. It was a blessing to have you speak with us, and enlighten us in the most positive way. Your approach speaks volumes of how you are as a person, regardless of how you may have been in the past. You lived and learned like so many; however you choose to spread your knowledge. For this reason I am so thankful. May God continue to bless you and your family with good health, success and happiness!!!! Happy Holidays….
Ruby
Congatulations on ur 19 years sober!!!!
Story was very much close to home. I also tried to help my older brother from drinking and driving. He had many DUIs and would always tell us “I know how to drive I’ve been drinking and driving since I was 16.” Well on mothers day and at the age of 30 he lost control and his car flew right into the Tijuana River in San Diego where I just relocated from. He left behind 2 beautiful kids and died on his sons 11th birthday. If he would have heard your jokes he would have loved them. U really got to want help before someone can help you. I tried helping my brother since I was 12.
Loved your show inspiring and very funny.
P.S I was waiting on you to talk about Cali but you didn’t good or I would have had to boo you!!!!! J/K LOL
Bernie,
First off, I would like to say Thanks for the outstanding show. The comedy is absolutely hilarious. Secondly, the story you shared with us was so heart touching. I couldn’t imagine going through the same things myself. You are a truly couragous person, and a Hero to your Brother Shawn. I don’t want to bore you, but I would like to share a short story of my own. I have a cousin named Phillip that is 22 years old. He still lives at home with my Aunt, because he has always been a little challenged. He doesn’t read well, and only made it through the 9th grade. All of the family always has mean words about him when he’s not around. However, Phillip is quite a large kid, so nobody says any of those things when he’s around. He also has quite the temper. When I’m around Phillip, we are like brothers. I have 2 brothers of my own, but Phillip is just as close as either of my real brothers. Whether we’re fishing, riding 4-wheelers, or just mowing the yard (having lawn mower races most of the time), we always have each other’s backs. I would rather spend time with Phillip than almost anyone else in the family. He loves my son to death, and my son loves spending time around him. It made me really think about the way the rest of the family treat him sometimes, and quite frankly, it makes me pretty angry. I just wanted to share this with you becuase when you were talking about your Brother/Buddy Shawn, it made want to take a week of leave, drive to Arkansas, and spend time with Phillip for a while, just so that he has someone there that really enjoys his company. You are an inspiration, and I will be looking for a way to get my son, who is now 12, to be able to listen to you, if only the audio. I think the message is great for old and young alike. I would not have missed your show for anything in the world. You were Absolutely Awesome and I Thank You for the things that you do.
Jay
Incredible show!!! You made me laugh and cry at the same time
Dear Bernie,
I have spent 19 yeras in the military and your briefing at Randolph AFB was above all “Number 1″! Your message on the perils of letting alcohol control your life was right on point. More importantly, your message of hope and perserverence after hitting bottom touched me even more. I have never been that close to the “fall” but for the past few weeks I felt like I was getting pulled into a dark pit. A few years back, just before Thanksgiving, my infant nephew died. I was away on military duty and could not get back for the funeral; a sad reality of our missions at times. Two years ago this month, my brother-in-law took his own life (by gun) and it hit me very hard. I was worried about him, but did not speak up. Last week I learned a dear friend’s grandmother is dying; she was like family to me when I was a teenage. It brought on an overwhelming saddness I could not shake. When you started your briefing, I wanted not to laugh. I wanted to hold onto my guilt, sadness, and pain. But I did laugh. And later I cried a bit too. But I felt better. I was able to see that even though I can’t go back and change things, I can’t wear that pain forever either. I already knew these things, but I needed someone to remind me. Your show, at that time, on that day was the best thing that could have happened to me. My thanks are not enough… just keep spreading the word. Keep touching lives. And most of all, keep making us laugh. It truly is great medicine.
Keep killin’ em Bernie. The world will be a better place becuase of people like you.
God Bless,
jpk
Bernie,
Inspiring message and definitely using the gifts you have been given. Great love for your family – Keep up the work!
