    Bernie,
The show was great, and the message was even better! It stays away from the cliche’ that is, a motivational speaker, and it provides a healthy amount of laughs. Its great to hear the stories from a guy who has been the guy at the parties, and with the girls. A guy who has seen the bottom, and rose to the top. Awesome job!

    Hey Bernie,
I just wanted to say that you killed out there you did a really good job at getting the word out about alcohol. I also like how you put comedy into the show so its not just like a boring lecture like we always get. Thank You for coming to St. Cloud i appreciate what you do. Thank you and good luck with everything.

    Sincerely, Jacob Smith

    Bernie-

The show was awesome. It really helped me deal with the reality that there will be tons of people around drinking. See, I’m one of those kids who does not want to drink in school. I’m one of those people who has seen what alcohol can do to people and I definately don’t want to start. It just helps knowing that there are other people who have seen what drinking can do to someone and how it really can screw up their life. Thank you for telling your story, which can’t be very easy and I hope to see you perform again sometime in my life.

    Thanks Again,

    Joey

    Hey Bernie!

You did very well at tonights show…it was great!

I liked how you made it intresting and informal but still fun!
It would be great to see you around SCSU again!

You did great in coorperating your brother into the story!

    Great job!
    Hope you can write back!

  12. 12 Derrick Banas

Hey man. You were kick ass. Best speaker I’ve seen yet give a speech that can inspire us through a new way. It wasn’t a lecture and thats what kids don’t need. We need someone like you.

  13. 13 Tara K

Thanks Bernie for another great show!! I came last year and had to come again. YOU ARE AMAZING!! I hope to see you all four years that I am here at SCSU!

I am a second year college transfer student at Saint Cloud State University. I went through many long and difficult trials myself. I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say about your own experiences throughout your own life experiences.

I am a student going for Special Education licensing in the area of Developmental disabilities. I work with adults with developmental disabilities within a group home setting, just like your brother Shawn.

The part when you were telling the story about you and your brother Shawn really touched me and made me feel a little emotional, because I could relate to that. I know how people with disabilities feel when they get to go out for the weekend with one of their family members. They are really excited and can not wait for that day to come. They will continously ask what day it is until the day comes that they get to go out with their loved ones.

  15. 15 Clifford Adee

Dude, awesome show. It’s to bad I showed up late (I was Cliff, I came in late with Cassandra and Kathryn). But awesome story dude, and I hope I get to meet you again someday and hear the whole comedy part. Have a great day and a pleasent tomorrow.

The set was cool. I liked it a lot. Keep on doing what your doing. It was funny, and serious. I’m glad that someone has found a way to get a message across in an interesting way. It’s too bad that you actually had to live the experience though. Congrats on the 19 years!

  17. 17 Genna

Bernie your show was great! I was one of the orientation leaders and was so happy that the students were able to connect with you! Thanks for coming :)

  18. 18 Cassandra Potter

    Bernie,
I have had the honor of seeing you not once but twice and you are absolutely amazing. Your story touches various people for various reasons. I really enjoyed how you stayed later and socialized with everyone and I got a chance to speak with you first hand, and amazing experience, you really care about the message you send and that is the best way to get people to listen.

    Cassandra
(the girl who came in late)

  19. 19 Kara

Congrats on 19 years. I’m a freshman this year at SCSU. You seemed very personal and down-to-earth about this topic. I missed part of the lecture, but I thought it was nicely done. You make talking to a bunch of college students about the serious effects of drinking look easy. Hoorah, and thanks for coming to St. Cloud. Go huskies! And good luck in all you do.

  20. 20 Sara Jensen

    Hey Bernie;

I really enjoyed your show tonight. It was extremely funny and a lot of fun to listen to, and I really enjoyed listening to the experiences you went through and the message you had to give. I’m not a drinker myself, and I really hope that some of the people who are take your lesson to heart. I hope that you continue being alcohol and drug free for another 19 years! :D

    Bernie…
GREAT SHOW!! I had turned town a few people when they had asked me to go but then reight before nine I thought well sit in my dorm alone or go and I went and had a great time. You had a great message you sent out and delievered it well. You’re hilarious and you’re probably the best speaker I’ve ever heard. Keep on doing what you’re doing!!

  22. 22 Angie

    Bernie,

Your inspirational message was extraordinary!! ..And the comedy wasn’t bad either! LOL!

Thank you for coming to St. Cloud, hanging with us afterwards for ice cream, and giving me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek.

I am proud of all you do for your brother. Now I realize the importance of family and needing to have time for them because I have a sister whom I love dearly and should never use the ‘flat tire’ excuse on her whenever she wants to hang out or needs me.

Wish you many more amazing years of comedy & inspiration! : )

    Bernie,
Wow! What a great show! The way you put comedy in with a message like that was awesome. I never thought that someone could work those two things into one set but, you did and I want to thank you for it! It really hit home when you talked about youur brother. I had a friend who died because of somone else’s actions after a cuople drinks. The people broke into her house and shot her and her mother. They got away and unfortunatly her younger siblings have the memory of it and will have to live with it for the rest of their lives. Thank you for your message! It hit home and it really shows people how much a couple of drinks can affect somone’s life forever.

  24. 24 Joe

Hey You Are a great comedian man. Everything you said kept me interested and that is a diffcult thing for people to be able to do. Thanks for that message it really effected me and made me think about friends i know and stuff

  25. 25 Katelynn Kressin

    HEEEEEEEEEEEEEY Bernie!

great show!! i havent laughed that hard in a long time!!

p.s-i ran out of deodorant this morning, blood is still dripping from my arm pits, and im not going to get a new one before tomorrow!!

  26. 26 Aaron

    Bernie,

Your show was great! Love the mix of comedy with the inspiration message. Wish I had speakers like that when I was in High School. Keep on doing this, cause you are good at what you do!

  27. 27 Selam Yosief

    Bernie,

I have never seen anything like your show before and I’ve seen them all. Your show inspred me and I didn’t even see it coming, plus you are way too funny…I peed my pants…haha just kidding. Basically, I loved it.

  28. 28 Cheryl

You Rock Bernie! I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy the show but it was GREAT. I loved how you were funny but still delivered a great message withour being just another boring speaker! Thanks!

  29. 29 Brian M

    Bernie-

That was another amazing show. I was able to watch you last year when you came and again this year. I really like how you add your own personal experience into the whole show.

  30. 30 Mike

Amazing show! You had an awesome way of getting the message across. People really paid attention to you, much more then a lecture. I heard more than a few people talking with eachother about drinking after they left your show. You are a great person. Keep the great work, and I hope that you stick to your goal of being alcohol free!!!

  31. 31 Dan Bodin

    Hey man,

I was an Orientation Leader for the kick off week. It was my job to encourage students to attend your show. Some students thought it would be “stupid” and “boring” but I brought them along anyway. I was so happy it was actually good, and inspiring.

It is hard to help some students that just don’t seem to get it, and behave in a destructive mannor. Your message was from the heart and I hope we all learned something, even if it is what NOT to do.

It sucks about your brother. But keep doing what you are doing. Telling your story means something: It means your brother didn’t die in vain.

  32. 32 Andy

It was a very good show and the message really brought people back to reality with what could happen. This is the best way to get a message across to college students. Thanks for a good time.

  33. 33 Jessie

Hey Bernie! You Rocked the House in Cloud!!! =) Thanks for the purposeful message too, it was truely touching. Great to hear you’ve gone 19 yrs w/o a single drink too, no matter the pressure or occasions, cause anyone could be well only one, then one more. Your message will stay with me for years to come!

  34. 34 Kyle Hartman

Hey Bernie great show…the message hit home man. I think alcohol on a college campus in young people lifes in general is often a confusing thing. I am gratiful you spoke on our campus to help us evaluate ourselves in a very real and effective manner.

ps. your funny as hell man.

  35. 35 Ryan K

Wow that was a great message with a point; I thank God that you came to our campus and hopefully lead few to recovery and encourage many to live the sober life. I was a self medicated alcoholic for four months of my life, I hit my lowest low and was chronically depressed and closes to failing out of college. Something in my life changed, my outlook became positive after reading 2 Corinthians 4:18, the road to recovery has been a hard long road but I have been sober for over 8 months. Keep telling your powerful testimony and do not be discouraged.

  36. 36 Brittany Tischmak

    Hey,

I just want to say that your show really touched my heart. The way you were able to be funny but serious at the same time, I feel really made an impact. People now days don’t understand what its like to lose a person that they love and how hard it is, but for you to be able to stand up there and tell your story without shedding a tear…. that was amazing! That is definantly a hero in my eyes. Thank you!

    Brittany!

  37. 37 Christy Gillen

    Heya Bernie,

I really enjoyed your show here at SCSU. You were hilarious and you managed to get the message across without boring the students or losing their attention. I was an orientation leader and my group was raving about your show and how great it was. They really liked it. I still hear people talking about you on campus and there are a lot of people here who are now really disappointed that they missed it.

Again, as I told you at the Ice Cream Social, speaking as someone who works with people who have disabilities, thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to spend with your brother. That really struck me and I always want to recognize those who do it, since there are a great many who can’t handle the situations. What you’re doing for your brother is amazing, and I am willing to bet that every time you show to pick him up, you make him happier than he usually is. He sounds like a great person and a lot of fun to be around. I’m glad you realized that and take the time to spend with him.

I am sorry to hear about your brother. I’ve lost several friends to suicide, and one of my best friends, the guy who was like a big brother for me and who meant everything to me, killed himself a little over a year ago. I know it’s not exactly the same, but over the years I’ve learned the pain of suicide never really leaves the people left behind. It must have taken a lot of courage to tell that story when you began doing this, but I’m glad that you managed it because I think it made a great impact on us all in the audience.

Your show is such an inspiration. I think it’s amazing that you’re out there doing this and helping people so much. The night after your show was the quietest I’ve seen in the time that I’ve spent at SCSU, and I’m betting that you had something to do with that. Thank you for telling your story and in such a great way.

So, now that I’ve written such a long reply (can you tell I’m a writer?), I will cease my babbling. Keep up the awesome performances, you are touching and often even changing the lives of those you tell your story to. Thank you for that.

  38. 38 Tess Pfohl

Hey Bernie, your show was great! Your jokes and inspiration related to everyone… thanks again for the great message! you rock.
