CSUN2.jpgMatadors of CSUN!  You Athletes packed it out, and I thank you!!!  The Staff worked so hard, to make the event a success.  It was so cool to be here in my own backyard doing a show.  I spend most of my life in airplanes and hotels.  It was nice to do a show and come home the same night!  Thanks Cal State!   To the coaches and athletes, thanks for coming and I hope you left with more  laughs and important info then what you came with!   Your friend- always,   Bernie

Great show, I felt was message was deep and it really hit home for me because I felt that I was on the same path that you were on, and your show made me step back and look at what Im doing with my life and helped me realize that I need to slow down with the partying and drinking because I am only hurting my potential and my future, thanks for the show, you were really funny too.

I am on the Cal State Northridge Track and Field team and I thoroughly enjoyed your 5pm show. You are very witty and can easily relate daily complications. To be completely honest I am a little bit of a drinker, however I don’t believe it has affected my studies yet. Your show effectively stopped me in my tracks. It made me contentious about all my decisions in life and how they can drastically change the outcome. Thanks because every now and then everyone needs a little reminder about their plate.

    Sincerely,

Very entertaining and educational. Usually I hate going to these things because they are super boring but your approach was awesome and I couldnt stop laughing. :) Definately made me realize how serious things can get and how quickly your life can be changed by one mistake. Thanks for sharing with us! :)

Great presentation, although I might comment to you about “put down humor.” You don’t really need to go there. Making nasty cracks about gays or WalMart is just not necessary. You have so much funny stuff, and your message is so strong. The story about your brother hugging and kissing you in the car is so heartwarming. Don’t spoil it by making gay jokes. Not fair to Shawn (Sean?) and not fair to gay people.

Congratulations on 19 years of being sober. That’s awesome, man! Hope we can do the same, here.

    Dear A-
Thanks for the kind words on 19 yrs without a drink. I can’t believe it myself some days. I am truly humbled by what has been done for me, by me staying out of the way of myself. I wish the same for you, and that all your goals are achieved!
Also…I have been waiting about nine years for a negative ‘joke’comment, thank you for stirring things up! Although I disagree with ‘your interpretation’ of the two joke topics mentioned, I appreciate you stepping up and sharing your opinion . You said I did ‘gay jokes’. I would like to address that first. I never mention the word ‘Gay’ in any joke, nor am I anti-gay. I am in the entertainment business where half the population is gay and I love almost every one of them I meet! If me referring to driver’s of the cars on the highway witnessing my brother Sean hug and kiss me yelling out “you guys go break that mountain” is anti gay, then I am sorry you took it that way. It is a reference to a Movie title! But I am cool with you feeling that was a ‘put down. You are entitled to that. If you ever get to hang in my circle at one of my home dinner parties, you will meet a large number of gay friends whom I am sure you will dig, as I do, and we can get their opinion on the spot of that bit. We comics live and die with every line, every reference, every joke we deliver. Feathers get ruffled, PC people jump out of seats, it is the tight rope we walk, every word, every day. As far as referring to the WalMart clientele as looking like the set of a Jerry Springer show, or the other joke that “Walmart is living proof that not ALL people were meant to reproduce”, well….I can’t even comment on that. If you go just a little deeper though, you will realize that BERNIE has to be one of those clients to have made such observations, therefore, the joke is on ME!
With the state of affairs in this country and overseas, we comics are just trying to make people laugh, not hurt people’s feelings. I am very sorry if the Brokeback Mountain and Walmart jokes did hurt yours.
Be good to yourself- and thanks for writing.
    Bernie
