The athletes did show tonight albeit mandatory, and made Bernie work a bit to get them to laugh.  I understand, having had to appear myself at mandatory functions in my day.  I appreciate you all coming out, and when it came time to talk about the matters ‘at hand’ all attention was focused on the important message.  I want to thank Marie, Sue, Fred and Thomas for supporting the program and to all the athletes that did take away something more then when they came!  Hit me here and I will get back to you.  New Orleans is a great city with great people who have endured hardships most of us in other parts of the US have not had to experience.  I tip my hat to all of you, for showing class, grace and courage to put things back ‘on track’ in your city, in your sports, and most importantly in your lives!    Bernie

    Bernie,

Thanks again for coming out. Sorry for the difficult crowd…I was laughing or as some might say, cackling. I enjoyed your story, the message was very moving. I commend you for turning your life around and sharing your story. Have safe travels and enjoy that west coast.

Hey bro, I really just wanted to let you know that I think its a great thing that you do up there onstage. You know from being a student athelete yourself that most people are very hesitant to accept any type of advice or help from anyone. I really think that you did a great job getting your message across and I know that I personally took some of it to heart and so did other people. Keep doing what your doing because I am sure that you have helped more people than you think. BTW, good luck with the Fiat. They can get pretty problematic if you don’t take good care of them.LOL. Good luck with the rest of your comedy touring and stay safe.

    Bernie:

I thought you did a great job, despite all of the athletes that are “too cool for school” that may not have found the heart to laugh. I especially loved the parts that were “funny because it’s true” like the toilet paper puzzle. That’s so funny because I think pretty much everyone does that. Anyway, I just wanted to say it took a lot of courage to come out in front of a bunch of college kids and try to make them laugh while also leaving them with a very important lesson and a greater appreciation for life in general. I wish you the best with your brother Sean and the rest of your family, and congratulations on being clean for 19 years! That’s my whole lifetime! Keep up the comedy and especially the inspirational messages and I hope that you continue to affect people in each of your crowds.
