Kicking off this week in WI!

Fox Valley Tech in Cheese country, USA! I love Fox Valley. Been there many times over the years and have always met the coolest students each year. The show was great today and I want to thank Vicki, Rayon, Travis, Bernie(no, not me- a female Bernie)…for hosting the show. Thank you Amanda- for your amazing response to the show on my Blog! I hope to come back soon- Except I will bring a jacket! It is snowing here and I just arrived from a Cruise ship in Mexico. Keep in touch peeps….Peace- Bernie

I decided to sit in on Bernie’s comedy show at my school which is fox valley tech. At first i thought it might just be fun to listen to a comedy for an hour to make time go by faster so i would have something to do since i didn’t have class until 1:30. Well after listening for a while i couldn’t stop laughing at his jokes. I swear I couldn’t help myself from rolling on the floor laughing. My stomach even start to hurt and tears came to my eyes from laughing so hard. I have never seen a comedian in person before and this was by far one of my best expierences. Before this show I didn’t even know that bernie existed and now I am glad that I do because not only is his act funny it sends out a very important and educational message. I learned alot about alcohol and what it can do to your body. I have decided to stay away from it and try to encourage others to also do so. I am going to school to be a police officer so I really can’t afford to be underage drinking or when I am 21 be drinking anyways. I have more important stuff to think about like graduating and getting the career I want and helping people. I chose to be a police officer because I want to help people before they make the wrong decisions. If I can help save someone’s life just by doing my job it would bring great honor to me by being a police officer. I believe that bernie’s choice to be a comedian does the same thing in ways that a police officer would do. He is helping people make the right decisions before it is to late. Shows like bernie’s can help save the lives of people all over. I wish more people were like bernie when it comes to comedy acts. If there was an award for educational comedy that sends a message i think bernie would be a great candidate for it because who knows how many lives bernie is saving by putting on his show and basically just doing his job. I want to say thanks for bernie coming to my school and teaching me about alcohol and its effects because my boyfriend has a drinking problem which his trying to resolve. he wants to quit drinking but like any other drug it is hard to quit cold turkey. bernie’s show influenced me to tell my boyfriend the things i learned and help him get to a doctor where he can start recovering from this problem before it becomes worse. As they say the first step to solving a problem is admitting you have one.
Thanks Again,
Amanda Appleton
Hey Bernie,
I really enjoyed chatting with you over lunch after your show at FVTC.
Dear Bernie-
I just have to tell you, how amazing your show was today my friend. What guts it takes to go out there and pour your heart and soul out to strangers, sharing so much insight and behavioral patterns only someone like yourself would know of, due to your own trials. I looked around the room as you described your trail- and saw some of my friends who party too much were glued to your every word and also feeling a bit uneasy- because you were hitting home with them. I am so glad and hope you were able to not only penetrate but change their ways of drinking and looking at life, school and women. You have so much class and dignity now- after all you have achieved and conquered. You are humble in your ways and way of thinking of yourself. I want that for me man. I hope you come back here soon man. You were just what we needed.
Michael
Dear Bernie-
Your show today was great. I had so many laughs and your part about what drinking did to your grades and sports made so much sense. I really am going to think twice before drinking again. I just transferred recently from a college in NJ and there was a speaker there who spoke almost word for word about many things you did. Not your personal story, but she must have seen your show before. Do you know who I am talking about? or does she work for you? She was short with blond hair- and was kind of corny. Anyways- thanks for coming to Fox Valley. Sincerely, Kelly
Dear Bernie,
I really liked listening to your show today. It is January 23rd and you did a show today at “FVTC” where I go to school. I am not a colege student matter a fact I am still in high school, I go to the quest program, it is a high school program that the tech does. My entire class went down but I am the only student that stayed, the rest of the class left, not becuase of you however, but because they think that they have better things to do than to learn how to over come hardship. I didnt know really if I would like it, but when I was sitting in there listening to you, I really thought about life. I may not be on the same exact road you were on, but on a similar one. I was in a long term relationship with a guy who is now in prison, for armed robery, and I was very big into drinking and drugs, pot and coke, mainly. After my boyfriend was takin into jail I kind of gave up in things. I started getting into trouble, I started drinking alot and now I am facing 5 felonys, and a long time in jail/prison. Drinking and drugs are also what got me kicked out of school and put into the program that I am in now. However I am very thankful that I am in that program I wish it didnt have to happen that way. Any ways, I am trying very hard to change things around for myself, I am getting good grades, I am going to be able to graduate early, I even get to take some colege courses, which is really cool. But I am still having trouble getting away from all the bad things and all the trouble some people in my life, I am still working at it though. I was just wondering, how did you over come all of those things? If you want to E-mail me back I will fill you in on the entire story, and I would really appericate the advice. Thank you so very much for coming, I am hopeing that your show had an impact on others as well as myself. Thank you again, thanks for coming into our school with your story and very funny act.
Sincerely,
Brittany
Bernie,
Great job at FVTC yesterday! Your message should be heard by all high school students. I really had no idea what to expect when you began your presentation, but it was a great way to spend a lunch hour. I appreciate that you don’t preach and you really connected with the audience. Good luck staying sober and enjoy those weekends with your brother!
Gary
Thanks much for both your humor and your very serious message. As someone who is both a mother of college students and a teacher of college students, I know how important your words are. Staff at campus orientations for my own kids said that pretty much every bad thing that can happen to a college student probably has something to do with overuse of alcohol, and I think that’s true.
I wish even more students had been able to get to your prsentation, but thanks for sharing a powerful message. You made a difference to all who heard you.
