The Killer Bees of St. Ambrose!
19Sep06
I am not sure where to start with what I witnessed tonight at St. Ambrose University in Iowa. NEver have I seen a school pull out all the stops to motivate students to make the ‘right’ choices in life. The evening was not only my Happy Hour program, but an entire evening filled with events and information, the highlight:an incredible staged and re-enactment of a DUI crash seen, involving fatalities, anger, loss, and remorse. I want to thank the CAB, SGA, and Resident Life committees for doing an outstanding job this evening. Veronica, Tom, Chad, Matt, and dozens of staff put together a night I will never forget. I also want to thank the Davenport, Police Dept, Fire Dept, Medical Technicians, funeral parlor, and even the pilot who landed a helicopter right there at the crime scene to evacuate and airlift the victim of the horrific re-enactment accident. What kind of perparation was put into this? Can you imagine, seeing two cars(one upside-down) mangled, injured passengers, then hearing sirens and seeing fire trucks and police cars enter the property on campus? Then hearing a chopper in the sky overhead, landing feet away? The drunk driver of the crash was given a sobriety test and lead away in handcuffs. The scene was incredibly impactful and emotional. This happens EVERY DAY, in real life. We got to see it up close and personal. I will never forget this evening. Thank you to the many students who then returned to the building for an up close and personal Q & A with me. Your questions were clever, and insightful. I found each of you to be curious and concerned. I have already received many personal e-mails about the program. Each of them very hearfelt. Please feel free to click on the ‘comments’ link below to post a BLOG message here about the Hapy Hour program, or any of the events you witnessed tonight. I felt a strong connection tonight, to a very special community of students, civil servants, and school staff. Wow, I am without words. What a night! Peace out- Bernie

Thanks for sharing your inspirational story and great humor with our university. It was terrific to have you hear for our “28 Minutes” presentation. I’m sure you touched many lives tonight and that’s a really special gift to have. Best wishes to you and God bless…
Dear Erin- The night was amazing. I can only go out, and share my personal experience with students. As far as touching lives, well, I would be humbled if it were true. I know mine has been touched by many speakers, when I allowed their truths into my heart. thank you for the great message. Keep the Focus! Bernie
Bernie,

Thank you for coming to speak, entertain, and educate our students! I sadly was not able to see your session as i was helping prep the rest of the evening, but i have heard nothing but great things from your session! Thank you again for not only coming to SAU but also being so supportive of our event! It is great to see that a national speaker walks the talk! Enjoy your vacation and always, Keep the Joy!!!
