I’ve only ever had a couple of sips in very controlled situations (New Year’s with my mom, basically)…and I’ve come to culmination of 19 years a happy, (always naturally, never chemically) stress-free life. I believe that my steadfast determination to be substance-free has helped lead me to my success of high marks (A average in high school, awesome SAT scores, etc.) and true friends. I’m proud to consider myself a member of the ‘Cool 17′.

I just would like to share that I have never drank before. Part of it is because my father is an alocholic and I am diabetic. Most of my friends drink. They drink on Friday and Saturday nights. I do have some that were drinking quite a bit. They try to get me to drink but I have never had a sip. Not to say it hasn’t been tempting but I knew with my fathers condition I didn’t want to chance it. I am 18 and a freshman in college so I still have some years of the pressure. But I have learned that there are more and more people that respect me for the choice not drink than to drink. When they try and get me to I respond to them by saying well at least I will remember what happend tonight. So I am proud to be a member of the ‘Cool 17′.

I haven’t ever had a drink of alchol. I am a sophomore in college I have made a promise to myself when I was younger that I will never have a drink until I was 21. I grew up with a father who was an alcholic which is a big inspiration to me not to drink. I do hang out with my friends sometimes when they are drinking but they know that even if they try and offer it to me that I will always say no. When we go out they don’t even ask any more they just know that I will always be the dd. I at least feel better when I go out with them because they at least have a dd to go out with them.

Well, I’ve never tasted and alcholic drink and swallowed it, and any time I did try it, it was at family occasions where I was under supervision by my mother. But I like what Sheila wrote. Because she said the exact same thing that I would say to my friends back in Tech School who asked why I didn’t drink. Cause I actually remember the fun I had the night before. Plus, people who get wasted, and then tell a story of waking up next to a naked girl, or guy, who they don’t even know their name… that doesn’t impress anyone. That just tells me that a person has no self-control to be able to stop themselves from doing something potentially deadly to themselves and others. Anyway, that’s all I have to say. Have a great night and a pleasent tomorrow.

I started drinking @ age 12.(I come from a big Hunting(Redneck) family) I only drank with my family, and usually only at the cabin. But then I started drinking more at home, and more by myself. I didn’t like where my life was going and my grades were starting a downhill slide. When I was a senior in high school I asked out my best friend and we started dating. She is someone that i love with all my heart and she was my reason to give up drinking. She hates alcohol…period. I stopped drinking on May 5, 2005. Since then I haven’t had any alcoholic beverages. My grades have recovered and are even better than they use to be. One other side note is I am my college football team(which football players are stereotypically big drinker) and i often get picked on for not going out to parties and drinking with the team but, i sit back and laugh when the grades come in at the end of the semester and I am on the deans list, and they are struggling to remain eligible.
